(Adnkronos) – Foreign undsecretary Giorgio Silli attended the signing ceremony in Libya’s capital Tripoli on Thursday of a contract between an Italian company and local authorities to build the western end of a key highway linking North Africa to the Middle East, the foreign ministry wrote on X.
“Today in #Tripoli for the signing ceremony of the contract for lot 4.3 of the Peace Highway between Todini SpA and the Libyan Authorities,” read the post.
“A major project born from the Friendship Agreement that will benefit all of Libya by connecting the Maghreb and the Levant and strengthening the bond between our countries,” the post added.
“#Italy and #Libya working together for peace, development, reconciliation, and cooperation,” the post underlined.
A 2008 friendship treaty signed between Italy and Libya included a five billion dollar reparations deal for misdeeds during the 1911-1943 colonial era and the construction of a major highway across Libya from the Tunisian border to Egypt.
