(Adnkronos) – Riots broke out overnight in Paris and Lyon after France’s defeat to Spain (0-2) in the World Cup semi-final. According to an initial assessment by the Paris police prefecture, reported by Bfmtv, 141 people were arrested in the capital and its metropolitan area, mainly for throwing pyrotechnic mortars at law enforcement and emergency services. The incidents did not cause serious injuries.
Tensions also arose in Lyon, where several hundred people had gathered in Place Bellecour to watch the match. At the end of the game, small groups, mainly composed of young people, formed and threw objects and pyrotechnic mortars at officers. The police intervened, arresting about twenty people, born between 2002 and 2011. Currently, no injuries or significant material damage have been reported.
