(Adnkronos) – The sudden decision by the US Army to cancel an important exercise of the 82nd Airborne Division, specialized in ground operations and complex missions, has fueled speculation about the possible deployment of troops to the Middle East. The Washington Post reports that the unit, with approximately 4,000-5,000 soldiers ready to move within 18 hours, would be among the most suitable to intervene in operations such as controlling critical infrastructure, strengthening US embassies, and emergency evacuations. At the moment, however, no deployment orders have been issued.
In recent days, US operations have focused on air and naval attacks to strike Iranian military bases, missile and drone arsenals, and Tehran’s Navy ships. The Pentagon assures that ammunition stocks are sufficient to support the campaign, but some officials report concerns related to shortages of precision weapons and interceptors. The US Central Command confirms that forces are striking the Iranian “center of gravity,” including underground ballistic missile launches, with B-2 bombers and other aircraft.
