Tokyo, Nov. 2 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said Monday the dollar-yen exchange rate has improved compared with around July, when the U.S. currency was trading above 160 yen, suggesting that the Japan-U.S. coordinated intervention conducted later that month had been effective. At a press conference after a cabinet meeting, Katayama emphasized that there would be no change to the framework for consultations with the United States after Tuesday’s U.S. midterm elections. “The two authorities will remain firmly committed to preventing excessive volatility, speculative trading and disorderly market movements,” she said, adding that the two countries will continue to communicate closely based on the U.S.-Japan Finance Ministers’ Joint Statement issued in September 2025. Katayama also said that the macroeconomic policy approaches of Japan and the United States are generally aligned. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
