Epstein case, Maxwell invokes Fifth Amendment and does not answer questions

9 Febbraio 2026

(Adnkronos) – As expected and anticipated by lawyer David Markus, Ghislaine Maxwell invoked her right not to answer substantive questions, based on the Fifth Amendment of the United States Constitution. American media report this. The now 64-year-old woman, who is serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking girls with the late financier convicted of sex crimes Jeffrey Epstein, was questioned via video link from prison, during a deposition by the House Oversight Committee, led by Republicans, which is investigating Epstein’s ties to powerful figures and how information about his crimes was handled.

“It is obviously very disappointing, we had many questions to ask about the crimes she and Epstein committed, as well as questions about any accomplices,” commented James Comer, who leads the Committee. “We sincerely want to get to the truth for the American people and obtain justice for the survivors: that is the purpose of this investigation.” Speaking with Epstein’s victims, it was clear “that Maxwell was a very bad person and committed many crimes,” he added, concluding that “she does not deserve any kind of immunity or clemency.”
