(Adnkronos) – The European Union must play a leading role in ending Israel’s devastating war in Gaza and Russia’s brutal military invasion of Ukraine and must police the peace there with the US, Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Thursday.
“In the current complex international situation, which I hope can be ended by peace in the Middle East and in Ukraine, Europe must bring that peace and lead the way in ushering in a new chapter,” said Tajani.
“Europe cannot be a spectator but must be a protagonist of peace… Europe must also play a role by strengthening its defence,” Tajani told a meeting of his conservative Forza Italia party in Rome ahead of the EPP Congress.
“Europeans and Americans will have to guarantee security – from Ukraine to the Atlantic – as part of the Transatlantic relationship, which is crucial and is one of our lodestars,” he said.
