Lebanon, tomorrow the vote for the new president, Saudi envoy returns to Beirut

8 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Saudi envoy Yazid bin Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Farhan is in Beirut on the eve of the parliamentary vote for the election of the new Lebanese head of state. He arrived this morning at Beirut international airport, the Lebanese agency Nna reported, and this is his second visit in a few days. In Beirut, where US envoy Amos Hochstein was on Monday and Tuesday, there is also French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The Land of the Cedars has been without a president since November 2022, since the mandate of Michel Aoun expired on 31 October of that year. Since then, disagreements between rival parties have always prevented the election of a new head of state. The favorite for the Baabda Palace would appear to be the head of the Army, Joseph Aoun. But on the eve of the vote there is no certainty of success on the thirteenth attempt in more than two years to elect a new president.
