(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani is attending a Christmas lunch in Kosovo on Monday with Italian soldiers serving in the Nato-led KFOR international peacekeeping force and has underlined Italy’s full support for the European integration of the western Balkans.
”On 23 December I’ll be in Kosovo for Christmas lunch with our military stationed between Serbia and Kosovo to safeguard peace in that somewhat complicated area of the Balkans,” Tajani told Italy’s Rete 4 V channel’s ‘4 di Sera’ programme late Thursday.
Tajani held talks on Thursday with top EU officials and with Serbia’s president Aleksandar Vucic after a European Union-western Balkan summit on Wednesday. The summit focused on migration cooperation and on accelerating the region’s European integration though economic growth and deeper EU political and policy engagement in multiple areas including foreign and security policy.
“I gave president @avucic Italy’s full support for the western Balkans’s EU accession process,” Tajani wrote on X after meeting Vucic.
“We want to keep playing a leading role in European reunification with an Italy-Serbia summit in January and a meeting in Rome in February with Balkans minister and members of the new European Union Commission,” Tajani wrote.
