Tokyo, Nov. 5 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average briefly tumbled more than 2,000 points Wednesday morning to slip below 50,000, dragged down by heavy selling of semiconductor-related shares. At 10:32 a.m., the Nikkei average stood at 49,441.52, down 2,036.20 points, or 3.95 pct, from Tuesday. Chip-related stocks faced strong selling pressure following overnight falls in U.S. high-tech shares, amid growing investor caution over the recent sharp gains in artificial intelligence-related equities.
