(Adnkronos) – The army of Guinea-Bissau, a West African country, announced that it had foiled an “attempt to subvert the constitutional order”, arresting several high-ranking officers on the eve of the start of the electoral campaign for the general elections scheduled for November 23.

“This action aimed to disrupt the electoral process,” said Deputy Chief of Staff, General Mamadu Turé, at a press conference, without specifying the number of officers arrested or the actions they had planned. Guinea Bissau is plagued by chronic political instability.
