Trump, ‘military against migrant invasion, tariffs for countries that do not accept repatriations’

12 Dicembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Donald Trump reiterates that he will use US military forces for his migrant deportation program “to the maximum extent permitted by law.” This is what the president-elect said in the interview published today by Time, which proclaimed him “person of the year 2024”, expressing the belief that the immigration he defines as illegal in the United States must be categorized as an “invasion of our country” and therefore will ask for the National Guard to be mobilized.

“Anything to get them out, I don’t care,” Trump said in the interview, which was conducted in late November. “I’ll do anything within the confines of the law, but if we need new camps, I hope we don’t need them, because I want them out, I don’t want them sitting in camps for the next 20 years.”

“I want them to leave and if the countries have to take them back and if they don’t, we will not do business with these countries and we will impose heavy tariffs on them,” he added. And this time there will be no family separation, a practice adopted by his first administration that shocked the world with the photos of migrant children locked in cages, because “we will deport them all together,” he concluded.
