(Adnkronos) – Diplomatic staff will “gradually” return to Italy’s embassy in Tehran following the peace deal agreed in recent days between the United States and Iran ending the three-month war that escalated through the region and led to the closure of the key Strait of Hormuz oil conduit, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday.
Tajani made the announcement during a meeting he chaired at the foreign ministry in Rome, which was attended by representatives of Italy’s main businesss associations, the presidents of national trade agency ICE and investment agency Simest, state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), export credit agency Sace and ambassadors to “key” Middle Eastern countries, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The meeting aimed to look at the prospects for the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, evaluate the effects of the crisis in the Middle East on the Italian economy, and review support measures for the most vulnerable businesses including tools made available by ICE and Simest, the statement aid.
Stabilising the Middle East region and fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz are essential to reduce the impace on Italy’s economy of rising energy and transportation costs, Tajani underlined.
