(Adnkronos) – Andrei Rublev’s Trinity icon, which had been transferred in 2023, by decree of Vladimir Putin, from Moscow’s State Tretyakov Gallery to the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius in Sergiev Posad, has been moved from the church’s iconostasis, while remaining within the religious complex, after the Ekho broadcaster reported that it was kept in an environment with 80 percent humidity, much higher than the limit, due to equipment malfunction. The Moscow Patriarchate announced that “scheduled checks on the icon’s state of preservation are underway.” Rublev’s fragile masterpiece was created between 1422 and 1427. It had been at the Tretyakov Gallery for almost a century.
