Polls, Trump’s approval continuously declining, GOP concern

22 Aprile 2026

(Adnkronos) – Signs of declining approval for United States President Donald Trump continue, fueling concerns among Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections. According to a series of polls conducted by Reuters-Ipsos, Ap-Norc, and Nbc News, the president’s approval rating is between 33% and 36%, near the lowest levels of his second term.

The negative perception of the economy weighs most heavily, despite Trump’s statements that the United States is the “hottest country in the world.” According to Ap-Norc, seven out of ten Americans judge the economy to be in poor condition, and 72% believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. Approval of the president’s economic management has fallen to 30%, while only 23% support his policies on the cost of living.

The polls also highlight a clear division on military initiatives and the administration’s foreign policy: 67% of Americans disapprove of the handling of the conflict with Iran, and 61% oppose further military interventions. Nevertheless, support among Republican voters remains high: according to Nbc News, 83% continue to approve of Trump’s actions, although slightly down from previous surveys.

These data represent a wake-up call for the Republican Party, which is called upon to defend its majority in Congress, now more uncertain. The economy remains the main issue for voters, followed by concerns for democracy and security, while some proposals – such as the requirement for photo ID and proof of citizenship to vote – continue to gather broad cross-party consensus.
