(Adnkronos) – The crisis triggered by United States-Israel attacks on Iran that began in late February and have led to a war that has killed thousand of people, shaken the global economy and spread to Gulf states and Lebanon, was the focus of Italy’s foreign minster Antonio Tajani’s phone talks Wednesday with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.
“This morning, I had a telephone conversation with the Iranian Minister 🇮🇷 @araghchi,” Tajani wrote on X.
“I encouraged him to work quickly toward a constructive solution to the crisis in Iran and to relaunch positive relations with the neighbouring Gulf countries,” the post stated.
“It is essential to reach an agreement swiftly on a ceasefire that ensures the safe reopening of the Strait of #Hormuz (a key waterway and oil conduit) and confirms the exclusively civilian nature of the Iranian nuclear programmme,” the post continued.
Tajani also “highlighted the priority of achieving a lasting ceasefire in #Lebanon, encouraging all parties to commit concretely to a stable and shared peace,” he wrote.
“Italy is ready to contribute actively to supporting dialogue and strengthening stability in Lebanon and throughout the region,” Tajani underlined.
