10 Aprile 2026

(Adnkronos) – China and North Korea aim to relaunch their strategic axis, with Beijing calling for intensified political and diplomatic coordination between the two allies. During a meeting with Pyongyang leader Kim Jong-un, the Chinese Foreign Minister stated that the two countries should “further strengthen communication and coordination on major international and regional issues, firmly safeguarding their sovereignty, security, and development interests.” This was reported by Beijing’s state media, in the account of the Chinese diplomacy chief’s two-day visit to Pyongyang.

Wang’s visit – the first since 2019 – represents a new step in strengthening relations between the two Asian neighbors, following the resumption of direct links interrupted due to the pandemic. “China is willing to work with North Korea to maintain close communication and interaction, promote practical cooperation, and give new contemporary meaning to the traditional friendship between the two countries,” the minister added.
