EU condemns Israel for new ‘illegal’ settlements in West Bank

10 Aprile 2026

(Adnkronos) – “The recent Israeli decision to establish over 30 new settlements in the occupied West Bank is illegal under international law and seriously undermines the prospects for peace and the two-state solution.” This was stated in a press release by the spokesperson for the European External Action Service, Anouar El Anouni, emphasizing that the EU “strongly condemns Israel’s unilateral actions aimed at expanding its presence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” and “urges the government of Israel to reverse these decisions, to respect its obligations under international law, and to protect the Palestinian population in the occupied territories.”

Recalling that such settlements were declared illegal by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, the statement also condemns “the continuous and growing violence of settlers against Palestinian civilians.” El Anouni reaffirms the Union’s commitment “to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the two-state solution in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, where two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders.”
