(Adnkronos) – Diplomatic efforts towards dialogue with Iran is the way to de-escalate the widening conflict in the Middle East sparked by the deadly US-Israel war on Iran which began in late February, has caused energy prices to skyrocket and is harming the global economy.
“Dialogue must be the main course of action,” Italy’s foreign minister told the lower house of parliament during Question Time.
Tajani underlined the need to forge ahead with the IMEC (India-Middle-East Economic Corridor) shipping and rail link to help export busineses hamstrung by Iran’s stranglehold on the key Strait of Hormuz waterway and the danger to shipping in the Red Sea posed by Yemen-based Houthi rebels in recent years.
“The aim is to speed up the IMEC Corridor’s development and integrate it with all other initiatives designed to boost growth, because where goods pass, weapons do not,” said Tajani.
Italy’s government strongly supports IMEC, Tajani underlined.
“We are not looking at a line drawn on a map, but rather the potential reorganisation of logistics and industrial supply chains between India, the Gulf and Europe,” he said.
