(Adnkronos) – The Israeli government has approved the call-up of up to 400,000 reservists, in the context of ongoing conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah. The army states that this does not represent the actual number of reservists that the Israel Defense Forces will call up, but rather a “maximum limit that allows flexibility based on operational needs.”
“The framework is designed to address challenges in various areas, particularly in the context of Operation Roaring Lion,” the IDF states, referring to the current war with Iran. The previous limit, approved in December, was 280,000. Since the start of the war with Hamas in October 2023, the request to authorize the Israel Defense Forces to enlist reservists with emergency call-up orders has been submitted for government approval every few months. In non-emergency periods, the Israel Defense Forces can call up reservists only with ample notice, not short notice, and cannot call them up for extended periods.
