Germany, far-right cell indicted, planned attacks on migrants and ‘opponents’

(Adnkronos) – The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office has indicted seven alleged members and one supporter of a far-right cell largely composed of young people accused of planning violent attacks against migrants. The prosecution accused the defendants, some of whom are teenagers, of the crimes of membership in a domestic terrorist organization, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and grievous bodily harm.

Police intervened against the group in May with a series of arrests and searches. The organization, which called itself Last Wave of Defence, was the subject of operations in several German states. At the time of the searches, the defendants were between 14 and 21 years old. All suspects have been in pre-trial detention since then.

According to prosecutors, the group considers itself a defender of the ‘German nation’ and wants to provoke the collapse of the democratic system through acts of violence, primarily directed against migrants and political opponents. Among the planned or carried out attacks were arson and bomb attacks against asylum seeker reception centers and facilities linked to left-wing groups. (continues)

Among the charges are those related to an arson attack against a cultural center in Altdöbern, in the eastern state of Brandenburg, a failed attack against an occupied hostel for asylum seekers in Schmölln, Thuringia, and a planned attack against an asylum seeker facility in Senftenberg, Brandenburg.

Court documents released in July indicate that the suspects planned to unleash a ‘racial war’, provoking an escalation of violence ultimately aimed at “preserving the white race”. Racist and anti-Semitic messages glorifying Nazism and the Third Reich were published on social media. Internally, members of the group had chosen a ‘minister of propaganda’. A thirteen-year-old led the ‘Gestapo’.
