Australia, Pakistan: “Campaign by hostile countries to discredit us”

17 Dicembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Pakistan claims to have been the victim of a web disinformation campaign after the Bondi Beach massacre in Australia. “When the attack occurred,” some media were quick to claim that one of the attackers was from Pakistan, the other born in Australia,” said Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar from Islamabad, in statements reported by the Dawn newspaper. But, he added, “there was no evidence to support these claims, no documents, and no verifications were made”.

“We know that this campaign was launched by hostile countries in an attempt to discredit Pakistan,” he maintained. Speaking to journalists, the minister also explicitly cited India, Pakistan’s eternal rival, for the alleged “disinformation campaign”.

There have been no reactions from India so far to the minister’s words. Yesterday, the Police of Telangana state, in the south of the Asian giant, confirmed that Sajid Akram, considered responsible for the massacre along with his son, was “originally from Hyderabad, India, and “had emigrated to Australia, in search of work, in November 1998”.
