(Adnkronos) – Sweeping reforms of the foreign ministry from 1 January are aimed at dealing with ‘increasingly fierce’ global competition, “unprecedented” trade tensions, a plethora of conflicts and “disruptive” artificial intelligence, whose emergence is impacting people’s daily lives, foreign minister Antonio Tajani wrote on Friday.
“We are living in an era of increasingly fierce global competition, which has led not only to unprecedented trade tensions, but also to the highest number of ongoing conflicts since the end of World War II,” Tajani wrote in a contribution to The Adnkronos 2025 Book of Facts.
“These are crises exacerbated by the disruptive emergence of artificial intelligence in every aspect of our lives. Addressing these new challenges requires rapid, innovative, and effective solutions. That is why I wanted wide-ranging reforms of the foreign ministry,” Tajani continued.
“The reforms will enter into effect on January 1, 2026, to ensure that the foreign ministry is always in step with the times and to enable Italy to play a leading role on the international scene,” Tajani wrote.
Tajani’s reforms aim to put economic growth and trade at the centre of Italy’s foreign policy, to streamline the workings of the ministry with a greater emphasis on IT and align it ever-more closely with the needs of Italian citizens.
