(Adnkronos) – US President Donald Trump has announced that he has ordered authorities to rebuild and reopen Alcatraz Prison, the infamous federal prison located on a small island in California that was closed sixty years ago. The prison will house “America’s most ruthless and violent criminals,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding that the facility will be “substantially expanded.”
According to the US Bureau of Prisons, Alcatraz closed in 1963 due to high operating costs, after being open for 29 years, and is now a tourist attraction.
