EU, €282.5 million in humanitarian aid for Chad and Sudan crisis

10 Aprile 2025

(Adnkronos) – The Commission has announced the issuance of humanitarian aid totaling €282.5 million, intended for the most vulnerable populations in Chad, Sudan, and neighboring countries. This was learned from a statement. The aid includes food support, health and nutrition services, access to water and sanitation, shelter, protection, and education.

In Chad, €74.5 million will support the response to the forced displacement crisis in the Lake Chad province, in addition to the influx of Sudanese refugees and returnees in the east of the country. In Sudan, €160 million will be allocated to populations in the regions most affected by the conflict, with particular attention to areas affected by famine and food insecurity and hosting a large number of displaced persons.

Another €48 million will go to support refugees, returnees, and host communities in South Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Libya, to address the consequences of the Sudanese crisis in neighboring countries, where nearly 4 million people have already sought refuge. Hadja Lahbib, EU Commissioner for Equality, Crisis Preparedness, and Response, is in Chad today to visit various EU-funded projects, including those supporting Sudanese refugees.
