(Adnkronos) – The ceasefire announced by the ruling military junta in Myanmar is not holding. In fact, clashes between loyalist forces and rebel groups continued today in one of the areas devastated by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that brought the Asian country to its knees last Friday. According to testimonies gathered from local residents, the military junta conducted several operations overnight in the Sagaing region.
Yesterday, authorities in Naypydaw announced a three-week truce, until April 22, to facilitate search and rescue operations. According to the latest official toll, 3,003 people have died and over 4,500 have been injured in Myanmar as a result of the earthquake.
