(Adnkronos) – Syria’s transitional government and the challenges posed by its planned national dialogue conference, the drafting of a new constitution, social inclusion and the war-torn country’s social and economic recovery will be at the centre of this week’s ‘Quint’ foreign ministers meeting in Rome, Italy’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani “strongly desired” Thursday’s meeting, also to be attended by European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, which aims to take stock of the situation in Syria a month after long-time dictator Bashar al-Assad’s fall, said the statement.
Earlier, foreign ministry sources told Adnkronos that Iran and the arrest and imprisonment last month of Italian journalist Cecila Sala are also expected to be on the agenda at Thursday’s meeting at Rome’s Villa Madama.
The Quint is a decision-making group made up of the United States and the ‘Big Four’ Western European countries – France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
