(Adnkronos) – The government is looking to attract up to 80 million tourists to their ancestral homeland under a pilot scheme being spearheaded by Italy’s foreign ministry with 200 million euros of post-Covid recovery funds, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Friday.

“There are around 80 million Italians or people of Italian origin who we hope will respond to our appeal, ” Tajani said on the sidelines of the Roots Tourism conference in Rome, which he is chairing.

“We will unveil projects in all our embassies with the precise aim of drawing more tourists to these places that are not always well known, which may be off the beaten track or lack the infrastructure to attract tourists, Tajani added.
