UK, Trump-style visa crackdown, denied to African countries refusing repatriations

17 Novembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The British government has threatened a Trump-style visa crackdown on three African countries if they refuse the repatriation of illegal immigrants. Specifically, Great Britain stated that it will stop granting visas to citizens of Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo unless these countries accept the repatriation of “their criminals and illegal immigrants,” the London Home Office said in a statement. “The three countries risk sanctions for their unacceptable poor cooperation and obstructive repatriation procedures,” the statement continued. According to The Times, the initiative was reportedly inspired by Trump Administration’s Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, who oversaw mass deportation policy in the United States.

“In Great Britain, we respect the rules. When I said there would be sanctions for countries that do not take back criminals and illegal immigrants, I really meant it,” declared Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who will address the House of Commons today to illustrate “the most radical reforms in modern times to combat illegal immigration,” drawing inspiration from the Danish system, the strictest in Europe. “My message to foreign governments today is clear: accept the return of your citizens or you will lose the privilege of entering our country,” even as tourists or business people, Mahmood said.
