(Adnkronos) – New mission to Washington for Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin to continue tariff negotiations. Talks are expected with the US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, as confirmed by the spokesperson for the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (Defr), Markus Spörndli, to the Keystone-Ats agency after reports from the ‘ajour.ch’ portal.
Talks are planned “at various levels,” they told Ats. The goal is to obtain a reduction in customs duties, currently at 39%. According to the spokesperson, the director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco), Helene Budliger Artieda, is also part of the delegation to the United States.
“I think the important thing is to continue with the talks. It shows that the Swiss government takes the negotiations extremely seriously and is trying to conclude them successfully,” said Federal Councillor Albert Rösti from Bern. Speaking about Swiss cheese at the World Cheese Awards, he stated that he hopes for an improvement in export conditions for producers.
