(Adnkronos) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani achieved a “great victory” in the general elections held yesterday. Sources close to the Iraqi prime minister, who is seeking a second term, reported this. “Al-Sudani’s list for reconstruction and development achieved a great victory,” a close official to the prime minister told AFP, while two other sources stated that the Shiite alliance supporting the premier won about 50 seats in Parliament, “the largest bloc”.
Yesterday’s elections saw a turnout of over 55%, an unexpectedly high figure, with more than 12 million people out of over 21 million eligible voters going to the polls.
