Philippines, Kalmaegi typhoon toll worsens, 91 dead and over 430,000 displaced

(Adnkronos) – The toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines continues to worsen, with the number of victims now at 91, 75 missing, and over 430,000 displaced, according to the National Disaster Management Agency. The typhoon, which hit 24 provinces in the regions of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, has caused floods, landslides, and severe damage to infrastructure. The most affected province is Cebu, with 49 confirmed deaths. Six soldiers died in a helicopter crash while engaged in reconnaissance operations. 

The typhoon, with winds up to 140 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 170, is moving northwest and is expected to leave the country by tomorrow to head towards Vietnam. Dozens of flights have been canceled and about three thousand passengers are still stranded in ports, while vast areas of Cebu and the Central Visayas remain without electricity.
