(Adnkronos) – Israel has ended the state of emergency in force in the south of the country since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. This was announced by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. As the Times of Israel explains, the state of emergency allowed the Israeli army’s Home Front Command to limit gatherings and close certain areas. For the first time in over two years, therefore, there will be no active “special situation” in Israel.
”I have decided to adopt the IDF’s recommendation and remove, for the first time since October 7, the special situation on the home front,” Katz said in a statement. “The decision reflects the new security reality in the south of the country, achieved thanks to the determined and powerful actions of our heroic troops against the Hamas terrorist organization over the past two years,” he added.
