(Adnkronos) – The Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a nationwide order to suspend roadside stops until further notice. The decision, reported by CNN and NBC citing informed sources, comes after two immigrants, a Mexican citizen and a Colombian citizen, were killed yesterday in Maine and last week in Texas by ICE agents who opened fire while trying to stop their cars.
The order, which represents a significant change in strategy by the federal agency to which Donald Trump entrusted the management of his deportation campaign, particularly concerns ICE agents involved in Enforcement and Removal Operations, responsible for the arrest and deportation of undocumented immigrants.
They are now ordered not to conduct roadside stops, a tactic often used by ICE to increase the number of migrant arrests. This tactic was also used in Texas and Maine where the two immigrants killed were not originally targets that ICE agents were pursuing.
