Nepal street protests, prime minister resigns

9 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Nepal’s Prime Minister, Kp Sharma Oli, has resigned following street protests against corruption and the blocking of social media that have shaken the Asian country in recent days. The BBC reported this, citing a note from the prime minister’s office, according to which the gesture intends to “pave the way for a constitutional solution to the current crisis”.

The decision comes after a day of strong protests in Kathmandu and other cities in the country, where the residences of several politicians were attacked and vandalized, including those of Oli himself and the former head of government, Sher Bahadur Deuba, as well as the headquarters of political parties. The protests were harshly repressed by the police and caused at least 19 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
