Russia, Warsaw closes Russian consulate, Moscow, ‘adequate response’

12 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – The Polish Foreign Ministry announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Krakow, after Moscow’s secret services were accused of being behind a major fire that broke out in Warsaw last year. “Due to evidence that the Russian special services committed a reprehensible act of sabotage against the shopping center, I have decided to withdraw my consent to the activity of the Consulate of the Russian Federation in Krakow,” Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski wrote on X.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the closure of the Russian consulate in Poland, promising an “adequate response”. “Warsaw continues to deliberately undermine relations. An adequate response to these inadequate measures will come soon,” Russian ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, quoted by Russian news agencies.
