Germany: Tajani in talks with Merz, Weber at EPP gathering on European innovation

(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani, who leads Italy’s conservative Forza Italia party, is holding talks in Heidelberg, Germany, on Friday with Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European People’s Party president Manfred Weber on ways to boost European innovation. 

The talks are taking place at a three-day EPP meeting in Heidelberg that will look at how Europe can propel economic growth and prosperity by becoming the most innovative continent. 

The meeting in Heidelberg – located in the automotive hub of Baden Wuerttemberg state – will have special focus on the future of the European car industry, according to the EPP website. 

Besides Tajani, Merz and Weber, the meeting will host an array of high-level guests from European politics, business and academia, the EPP website noted.  

Meeting guests include European Commission executive vice-president Henna Virkkunen, France’s former interior minister and president of the liberal-conservative Les Republicains party, Bruno Retailleau and Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) party chairman in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, Manuel Hagel.
