Tokyo, Oct. 23 (Jiji Press)–Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast may visit Japan in November to meet with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Japanese government sources said Friday. This would be Kast’s first visit to the Asian nation since he became leader of the South American country in March. At the bilateral summit expected for Nov. 20, the Japanese and Chilean leaders are seen confirming closer economic security cooperation. They are also expected to exchange views on diversifying supply chains for mineral resources. Kast is seen arriving in Japan after attending the Nov. 18-19 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit in Shenzhen in the southern China province of Guangdong. Chile, which is rich in mineral resources, is the largest copper and lithium supplier for Japan. The two countries have been strengthening economic cooperation, such as concluding an economic partnership agreement for free trade in 2007. Keiko Fujimori, president of Peru, a Chile neighbor, is also planning to visit Japan next month for a meeting with Takaichi, which may be held Nov. 20 as well. Peru is also an APEC member.
