(Adnkronos) – First they attacked the Iranian regime and incited its overthrow, now they target opposition candidates in the Israeli parliamentary elections. These are over a thousand social media accounts previously linked to an influence campaign against Tehran, which are now attacking Israeli opposition leaders and giving extensive coverage to videos of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speeches. This is what emerges from an analysis conducted by Haaretz, by online researchers and by a private monitoring company.
These accounts, active mainly on X, therefore promote Netanyahu’s election campaign and share his attacks against the opposition. Some accounts publish messages praising Netanyahu and portraying him as a strong leader in wartime, echoing content already broadcast during the influence campaign against Iran. Other suspicious accounts, recently identified, have also started sharing posts in Hebrew, urging Israelis to vote for Netanyahu.
To address this reality, the Brandeis Institute and FakeReporter have submitted a petition to Israel’s Central Election Commission, asking for clarification regarding the accounts identified by Haaretz.
