(Adnkronos) – The Zyuzinsky District Court of Moscow has sentenced the 61-year-old writer and historian of Russian and Soviet cuisine, Pavel Syutkin, to six years in prison for spreading false information about the military forces, specifically for a post published on April 19, 2022, on his Telegram channel in which he wrote: “Kyiv was bombed. Putin’s war has direct parallels with Hitler’s. Now he has his Babi Yar, Bucha.”
As reported by Mediazona, the sentence was delivered at the end of a trial held behind closed doors. The prosecution had requested an eight-year sentence for Syutkin, who was arrested in October 2025. “There is no doubt that my case is political in nature. There is not much to prove in cases like this. People are punished for their words and for openly anti-war stances. I do not hide mine. On the contrary. After months spent in prison, I am increasingly convinced that many Russians share them,” he wrote. “Nepridumannaya istoriya russkoy kukhni” (The True History of Russian Cuisine) and “The True History of Soviet Cuisine” are the two books, co-authored with his wife Olga, that made him famous. Before his arrest, he was a regular guest on cooking programs on TV and radio broadcasters.
