(Adnkronos) – Donald Trump invited a group of Republican lawmakers to the White House this evening, including several candidates involved in districts considered on the fence ahead of the November elections. Politico reports this, citing four sources familiar with the plans. The dinner is expected to be held in the Rose Garden and will be attended by several dozen GOP representatives and senators, including Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin and Tom Barrett of Michigan. The event also comes just days before the Republican midterm convention, scheduled for next week in Dallas.
The meeting comes as pressure grows among Republicans for Trump to deploy Maga Inc.’s substantial financial resources to support party candidates, especially in the challenges that are expected to be most difficult. According to Politico, the super PAC linked to the president has so far used only a small portion of the approximately $400 million at its disposal. Attention is particularly focused on the Senate race in Texas, where Republicans would like Trump to intervene financially in support of Ken Paxton, who has so far been outspent in advertising investments by Democrat James Talarico and the groups supporting him.
