Japan Seeks Nepal’s Help to Find 5 Japanese Missing in Floods

Tokyo, Sept. 1 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has called on Nepal to do its utmost to locate and rescue five Japanese nationals who remain unaccounted for following flash floods that hit areas near the country’s border with China last week. Motegi made the request in a telephone call with his Nepali counterpart, Shisir Khanal, on Monday. Khanal told Motegi that the Nepali government would make every effort to locate and rescue those who remain missing, including the five Japanese nationals, while cooperating closely with the international community, including Japan. Motegi explained that the Japanese government has decided to provide blankets, tents and other relief goods. He said Japan is also considering providing support through international organizations and dispatching a Japanese disaster relief team. Khanal expressed gratitude for Japan’s support.
