(Adnkronos) – North Korea has accused the United States of pursuing a “hostile” policy against it, vowing to respond with the “toughest” countermeasures. In a statement released by the official Kcna agency, a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry attacked Washington for initiatives taken in the name of denuclearization and human rights. “It is useless to expect a détente in the region, given the serious situation in which the persistent hostile policy of the United States towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is evolving in an increasingly dangerous way,” he said.
In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his willingness to re-establish contact with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, hoping to meet him by the end of the year. Pyongyang, however, reiterated its stance: “There is no change in our policy towards the United States: we will respond to their unchanged hostile policy until the end with the toughest position.”
