(Adnkronos) – Darline Graham, sister of Senator Lindsey who passed away last July 11 and supported by US President Donald Trump, has won the Republican primaries for the Senate in South Carolina. As reported by Nbc, Darline Graham defeated Representative Ralph Norman with approximately 52% of the votes in favor against 48% for the challenger.

“I continue to miss Lindsey every day and there is still a big void in my heart. But I know he is watching us from above now, very proud of all of you in this room,” Darline Graham told her supporters. Then, addressing Trump, Darline said: ”Mr. President, Lindsey truly loved you and considered you one of his dearest friends. I appreciate this bond and everything you have done for our country.” She then stated that ”our victory would not have been possible without you and we are truly grateful. South Carolina is truly Trump country.””

The American president had backed her, and during a rally on Friday, he explained that he had asked her to run “because everyone loves her, everyone respects her” and had asked her to “honor Lindsey,” who had been one of his closest allies. ”She knows how to put America first – Trump told his supporters – If you vote for her, you will be very proud of your vote.” Now, Graham, 62, will face Democratic candidate Annie Andrews, a pediatrician, in the November elections.
