Yemen: UN, ‘risk of large-scale conflict, stop escalation’

17 Agosto 2026

(Adnkronos) – In Yemen, there is a risk of a large-scale conflict, and it is necessary to stop the escalation that has caused a growing number of civilian casualties. This was stated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, who expressed alarm at the escalation of hostilities in Yemen and urged restraint and immediate de-escalation to prevent the country from plunging back into a full-scale war.

“I urge all parties to immediately cease any actions that risk plunging Yemen back into a full-scale conflict,” Turk said in a statement. The resumption of clashes between Houthi Yemeni rebels and the Sana’a government has undermined the truce in effect since 2022.
