Tokyo, Aug. 5 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s inflation-adjusted real wage index rose 1.6 pct year on year in June, up for six months in a row, thanks to higher wages and slower growth in prices, labor ministry data showed Wednesday. Nominal wages per worker, including basic salary and overtime, grew 3.4 pct to average 531,677 yen, according to the preliminary data covering businesses with five or more employees. Regular pay, mainly comprising base salary, climbed 3.4 pct. Reflecting summer bonuses, special pay jumped 3.5 pct. The consumer price index excluding imputed rent, used to calculate the real wage index, went up 1.9 pct. The rate topped the previous month’s 1.7 pct rise partly due to tensions in the Middle East, but was smaller than the year-before surge of 3.8 pct. Nominal wages for full-time workers, such as regular employees, grew 3.6 pct to 715,604 yen on average, while those for part-time workers went up 3.5 pct to 129,042 yen.
