Tokyo, July 24 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average briefly plunged over 2,000 points on Friday morning amid concerns over the situation in the Middle East. At 10:52 a.m., the index of 225 major issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime section fell 2,088.31 points, or 3.14 pct, from Thursday’s closing to 64,334.29. Investor sentiment was dented by overnight falls in key U.S. stock indexes, as concerns about oil supplies were rekindled by reports that Yemen’s pro-Iran Houthi militants had attacked tankers in the Red Sea.
