(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani on Tuesday paid tribute to the 86 victims of a cargo truck attack in Nice, France, on July 14, 2016, which killed 86 people, including five Italian citizens, stating “you will never be forgotten” and vowing to fight “all forms” of terrorism.

Italians Mario Casati, Maria Grazia Ascoli, Angelo D’Agostino, Gianna Muset, Carla Gavegli and the Italian-American citizen Nicolas Leslie were among those killed when a 19-tonne cargo truck was rammed into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day on Nice’s iconic Promenade des Anglais seafront boulevard in an attack claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group.

The attack struck not only France but all of Europe and the shared values of freedom, democracy, and coexistence that unite it, Tajani said, according to a foreign ministry statement. He underlined the deep bond between Italy and France, Italy’s full solidarity with the French people and the shared commitment to combatting all forms of terrorism through ever-closer cooperation between the two countries’ institutions and security forces.

Tajani reaffirmed Italy’s determination to ceaselessly combat the evolving terrorist threat and those who fuel it. “The lesson from Nice is that freedom is stronger than fear,” Tajani said-

The Promenade des Anglais, which once again is a lively meeting place, stands as a symbol of the resilience of open democracies and the most authentic way to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on that tragic night, the statement concluded.
