(Adnkronos) – At least five women have accused Rabat Archbishop Cristobal Lopez Romero of sexual violence, prompting the Spanish-born cleric to announce his “temporary detachment” pending a Vatican investigation. This was reported by Afp, explaining that it had interviewed a retired woman linked to the Church and examined the written testimony of another woman, who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by the archbishop. At least three other women were allegedly victims of similar acts by Lopez, according to a diocesan source.
“I am aware of the accusations. I have already responded to my ecclesiastical superiors and will continue to cooperate fully with them in the investigation,” Salesian Lopez said in a statement to Afp. “I have committed neither assault, nor violence, nor sexual harassment,” said the cleric from Almeria.
