(Adnkronos) – Italy is withdrawing staff from its embassies in Beirut and in Baghdad “because they are at risk” in the widening war between the United States, Israel and Iran, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said Tuesday after Israeli forces launched attacks across southern and eastern Lebanon targeting Iran-backed group Hezbollah and several strikes hit Iraq which are believed to have targeted pro-Iran fighters.
“We are reducing the presence of staff to a minimum at our embassies in Beirut and Baghdad because they are at risk and above all to protect our fellow citizens living in these countries (Lebanon and Iraq),” Tajani said.
Tajani made the remarks to veteran journalist Bruno Vespa at the Logistics and Eco Transport Show in Verona in the northern Veneto Region
