USA, Trump’s ballroom will ultimately cost 600 million, over half from taxpayers

(Adnkronos) – The ballroom that Donald Trump wants at all costs in the White House, by having the East Wing demolished, will ultimately cost 600 million dollars, over half of which will come from the coffers of money paid by American taxpayers. This is what the Washington Post reveals, having obtained a copy of the new estimates from the company that won the contract for the works, which contradict what the president stated, who spoke of a cost of 400 million dollars, all from private donations.

“It’s free for taxpayers who won’t have to pay a single cent,” Trump told reporters last March, describing the project which also includes the construction of a bunker, bomb shelters, and medical facilities. The fact is, the Post reveals, that already in March the federal government had authorized about ten payments to the contracting company for tens of millions of public funds. When questioned by the Post, the construction company said that the project details are confidential, referring questions to the White House.

“President Trump and generous American patriots are funding the ballroom with approximately 400 million dollars, which will be a safe and appropriate place for presidents of future generations,” is the response from White House spokesman Davis Ingle. According to a survey last April, 55% of Americans are against Trump’s decision to demolish a historic wing of the presidential residence to create the ballroom, while just 28% support the project.
